HCAA Trade Expo Seminar: Digital Transformation in Design and Practice

HCAA Trade Expo - Thursday 20 August 2026

How is the digital age of engineering progressing?

What is changing? Do you need to keep up? Should you be doing things differently?

Join us for presentations on the AI paradigm shift, digital design in engineering and looking beyond the BMS (from sensors to building intelligence), followed by a panel discussion on what the future of digital engineering holds.

Introducing our seminar presenters

Daniel Borg is the Founder and Creative Director of psyborg®, an award-winning design and innovation studio based in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.

Drawing on a background in industrial engineering and more than 20 years in branding, digital design and business systems, Daniel helps organisations understand and apply artificial intelligence without losing human judgement, creativity or purpose.

Through practical workshops, AI strategy sessions and business optimisation projects, Daniel translates complex technology into useful ideas that people can understand and act upon. His presentation style is visual, memorable and grounded in real-world business experience.

At the HCAA Trade Expo, Daniel will explore the AI paradigm shift, how artificial intelligence actually works and what emerging tools such as agents, connectors, edge computing and intelligent design systems could mean for hydraulic engineering.

Philip Krasnostein is a chemical engineer with many years’ experience in Australian process industries including 19 years in the Australian water industry.

He was a co-founder of Nubian Water Systems and led the development of a range of automated domestic and commercial, remotely monitored greywater treatment systems, which were approved by regulators and widely deployed throughout Australia. Phil was subsequently invited to participate in the development of a U.S. standard for domestic and commercial greywater recycling systems.

In 2011 he formed Optimos Solutions, a company focused on the improved management of water quality through the remote acquisition of reliable and accurate water quality data. Optimos Solutions has assembled a portfolio of world-leading water quality monitoring technologies, which it offers, together with custom designed monitoring stations, in Australia, New Zealand and parts of S.E. Asia.

In 2017, he co-founded D2K Information, which has developed D2K’s advanced water quality intelligence system, known as Information Engine™. At the HCAA Trade Expo, Phil will be talking about information is key to every hydraulic project.

David Foley is a Director of IIMBE and leads with a clear vision: to grow a business where people thrive, clients trust, and outcomes speak for themselves.

With a background in digital integration across complex infrastructure and construction projects, David combines strategic insight with hands on leadership.

Having built IIMBE into a trusted partner for organisations that value delivery, transparency, and collaboration.

His leadership is grounded in trust and transparency. Tackling challenges head on, communicates with clarity, and keeps the team aligned not just on what needs to be done, but why it matters.

What drives him is simple: seeing people succeed. He takes pride in backing talent, encouraging initiative, and creating space for growth.
