Education Update – 18/06/25

The Diploma of Hydraulic Services design continues to be delivered at TAFE (NSW) from St. Leonards and Gymea. There are currently about 45 students studying their Diploma that commenced in July 2024. This cohort will complete their studies in December 2026. TAFE (NSW) are still doing their best to secure additional teaching staff that may be able to offer addition students to study alongside the current cohort.

It is understood that TAFE (NSW) intend to deliver additional Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services (Design Stream) cohorts to help coincide with the completion of the current Diploma students at the end of 2026. This will create a new cohort of students (made up of Cert IV students from Operations Stream and the Design Stream) that are able to commence the Diploma in February 2027. TAFE (NSW) will provide confirmed dates when they are able and TAFE (NSW) will contact future students individually (from the waiting list) for placement opportunities.

NZ Students

New Zealand citizens are able to enrol in the Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services and the Diploma of Hydraulic Services design at TAFE (NSW).

Course Delivery

Both of the courses (Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services – Hydraulic Design pathway and the Diploma of Hydraulic Services Design) outlined above will continue to be delivered via “Blended Delivery”. This means there will be face-to-face classes held at TAFE (NSW) campuses for those that can attend in person and all for any students that cannot attend in person, classes can be attended remotely using Microsoft Teams.

It cannot be stressed enough that if you choose to attend remotely using MS Team, it is imperative that you have access to a good internet connection that will allow Audio and Visual connection to the classroom. Having a camera on during the classes it critically important for the teaching staff to be able to “connect” with the student. It is also important for ALL students to play an active role in the class.

This includes:

  • Asking questions,
  • Contribute to class discussion,
  • Keeping your camera on at all times (it is understood you may have to step away for brief periods, but turn your camera back on when you return),
  • Mingle with the other students outside of class (maybe setup a WhatsApp account for sharing information),
  • You are encouraged to become student member of associations like the HCAA (Hydraulic Consultants Association of Australasia) who offer a free Student membership.

HCAA Education

It's vital that we continue to encourage and facilitate the education and professional development of industry consultants and newcomers for the Hydraulic industry to thrive.
